We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Projects and Energy Lawyer to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will have 8-10 years of experience in providing legal advice and support within the energy sector, with a strong focus on Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) . This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with extensive knowledge of energy projects, contracts, and regulatory frameworks to contribute to the growth of a leading organization in the energy sector.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

1. Drafting, Reviewing, and Negotiating Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs):
• Provide expert legal guidance in the drafting, reviewing, and negotiation of PPAs for both renewable and non-renewable energy projects.
• Ensure PPAs are compliant with local laws, regulations, and industry standards while protecting the company's commercial interests.

1. Legal Advisory on Energy Projects:
• Advise clients on the legal aspects of energy projects, including procurement, financing, construction, and operational phases.
• Provide legal counsel on issues related to energy regulatory compliance, environmental regulations, and licensing requirements.
2. Contract Management and Dispute Resolution:
• Oversee and manage complex contract negotiations and dispute resolutions concerning energy agreements, including PPAs, joint venture agreements, and construction contracts.
• Address contractual issues and disputes, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop solutions that mitigate risk and support business objectives.
3. Regulatory and Compliance Guidance:
• Advise clients on applicable regulatory frameworks, including government policies, tariffs, subsidies, and energy market reforms.
• Stay current with developments in energy law, policy changes, and market dynamics that affect PPAs and other energy-related agreements.
4. Energy Financing and M&A Transactions:
• Provide legal counsel in financing and merger & acquisition (M&A) transactions within the energy sector, ensuring that all agreements and related transactions comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Assist in structuring, negotiating, and drafting documents for energy project financings, joint ventures, and acquisitions.
5. Risk Management and Strategy:
• Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks in energy contracts and projects, providing strategic solutions to safeguard the organization's interests.
• Support senior leadership with insights into legal risks and opportunities in energy projects and help shape the company's long-term legal strategy.
6. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
• Build and maintain relationships with government bodies, regulators, project developers, and key industry players.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders, ensuring alignment and compliance in all energy-related legal matters.

Qualifications:

• LLB (or equivalent) from a recognized university; additional qualifications in energy law, project finance, or related fields will be an advantage.
• 8-10 years of post-qualification experience in energy law, specifically with a strong background in Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and energy project contracts.
• Expertise in negotiating and drafting PPAs, EPC contracts, and other project-related agreements within the energy sector.
• In-depth understanding of energy laws, regulations, and policies, particularly in the renewable energy sector.
• Experience in dispute resolution, arbitration, and litigation in the context of energy projects.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to navigate complex legal frameworks and identify solutions that align with business goals.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team, demonstrating leadership and initiative.
