Location : Washington DC - 2-3 days per week in the D.C office

Job Type : Part-time, 10-15 hours per week
Salary : D.C. minimum wage ($17.50 per hour)
Reports to : Head of Congressional Affairs & Strategic Engagement

About Us:

The HALO Trust (USA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization specializing in the removal of landmines and other explosive remnants of war (ERW), with projects in 30+ countries and territories employing over 12,000 people. HALO's Washington, DC office works with government partners, international agencies, foundations, and private donors to increase awareness of the impact of landmines and ERW on post-conflict communities and to raise funds to support HALO's teams working overseas.

About The Job:

The DC office is seeking an enthusiastic intern for the winter who is interested in US politics and international affairs to support HALO's Congressional engagement. The primary responsibility of this position will be to support HALO's efforts to influence the Congressional appropriations process, by collecting all necessary information and procedures from Congressional offices related to appropriations requests, and reporting these to the Congressional affairs team. The successful completion of this project is critical to ensuring HALO achieves its strategic objectives and to provide funding for global demining efforts. The advocacy intern will also support other elements of direct Congressional outreach and grassroots advocacy efforts.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Collecting appropriations request forms and related contact information/procedures from Congressional offices and reporting these to the Congressional affairs team.
  • Drafting and submitting appropriations request forms and accompanying documents to Congressional offices.
  • Helping to promote grassroots advocacy campaigns and recruit new digital supporters to HALO's network.
  • Representing HALO in virtual meetings and events with Congressional offices and stakeholders.
  • Supporting the planning and implementation of virtual and in-person events.
  • Assist with data management and mailings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Applicants should have at least 2 years of professional experience (including internships) and must hold US citizenship. Applicants should possess a positive attitude and be highly organized, flexible, self-motivated, and detail-oriented, with a strong interest in Congressional advocacy, non-profit work, and international affairs. We are looking for the following:
