Thompson Coburn, a large full-service law firm with offices in eight (8) cities across the U.S., is in search of a Paralegal to fill a full-time non-exempt position in its Southern Illinois office. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Practice Support Services, this position will support attorneys in the Railroad Litigation practice area. The role includes all phases of case management, from investigation and discovery through trial and appeal. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to handle complex litigation assignments and manage competing priorities in a high-paced environment. After an initial period of training, this position is eligible for a hybrid-remote work schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists with all aspects of deposition and other discovery preparation, trial preparation, pre-trial compliance, and post-trial proceedings.
- Reviews, analyzes, and drafts discovery documents and court pleadings, including summarizing transcripts and medical records.
- Identifies and organizes factual evidence and prepares exhibits, outlines, and witness materials.
- Advises attorneys on expert and factual witnesses; prepares witnesses and gathers statements.
- Creates and maintains databases; performs searches and generates reports.
- Manages deadlines and scheduling in compliance with court rules and regulatory orders.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Demonstrates professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe; ability to learn new software quickly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Willingness to work overtime and travel as needed.
- Associate?s Degree or Paralegal Certification required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Substantial equivalent experience in Railroad Litigation may be considered.
- Minimum of 4 years of litigation experience required; comparable legal experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Compensation
For applicants that meet the experience requirements for the role and are physically based in O?Fallon, IL, the expected salary range is $60,000 ? $75,000 annually upon commencement of employment.Starting salary will be determined on an individualized basis with consideration to prior experience and additional qualifications.This is in addition to a comprehensive benefit package offered by the Firm.
