About the role

The Corporate Counsel supports the labor and employment and litigation functions for the Company, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and international employment laws and regulations. The broader in-house Legal team supports North America, EMEA, and APAC (emphasis on India).

This role supports and advises on Company policies and practices for all workforce-related matters, including labor relations, employee benefits, litigation, workplace policies, and government contracting compliance. The position requires prior experience in employment law, specifically wage and hour compliance (specifically, California law and PAGA are a must). The role includes identifying and mitigating compliance risks and potential and actual claims against the Company and its? affiliates, and assisting the General Counsel in overseeing external counsel. This role is for you if you have a passion for providing creative, proactive, and pragmatic legal guidance. A successful Corporate Counsel will be both a strategic advisor and hands-on problem solver.

What You Will Do

  • Provide advice and counseling on a broad spectrum of employment law issues primarily in the U.S. with a focus on California laws, as well as backup support in EMEA and APAC (Australia, India, Singapore) including: background checks, contingent workers, AI, recruiting, DEI, internal investigations, internal communications, performance management, executive agreements, leaves of absence, accommodations, wage and hour, pay equity, terminations, and reorganizations/role eliminations
  • Work with other department members to identify, mitigate, manage compliance and legal risk for the Company, including reviewing and revising internal policies and procedures
  • Support HR in developing proactive training for staff
  • Provide legal representation and/or supervise outside counsel regarding employment litigation, government administrative agency charges, audits, and investigations (e.g., EEOC, DOL, OSHA, and state/local agencies), as well as pre-litigation demand letters and claims.
  • Enforcement of contracts with temporary staffing agencies and other contingent labor providers.
  • Advise and assist with other general legal needs as they arise
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the General Counsel

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree required
  • Member in good standing of CA State Bar, or member in good standing of the State Bar of another state or the District of Columbia with California wage and hour experience
  • 4-7 years of experience; preferably a combination of in-house and law firm experience
  • Strong knowledge of laws and regulations relating to employment and independent contractor classification in various geographies
  • Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and assume significant responsibility
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment to prioritize and meet required deadlines

Salary range is between $165,000 - $185,000 annually based on experience, qualifications and location.
