What does a Service Technician do?

Job Description

We are looking for a service technician with technical expertise to travel to customers' homes or businesses and perform repairs on their equipment and machines. This may also involve remotely accessing equipment and performing routine maintenance. The service technician will also be responsible for installing and testing products and providing customers with instructions on how to properly use them.

To excel in this role, you should have strong technical and mechanical skills, as well as experience with basic hand, power, and diagnostic tools. Additionally, you should be physically fit to handle heavy equipment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answering phone calls and assisting clients.
  • Installing and testing products, equipment, and machinery, and providing instructions to customers on proper usage.
  • Using diagnostic tools to identify issues and troubleshoot problems.
  • Fixing defective or broken products, or ordering replacement parts.
  • Servicing home-based equipment, such as security systems, appliances, computers, and heating and ventilation units.
  • Servicing heavy equipment, such as farm or factory machines, diesel engines, and computer networks.
  • Promoting the company's services.
  • Maintaining technical and mechanical skills.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • An associate's degree or technical certification in the relevant industry.
  • The ability to work independently.
  • Patience and attention to detail when working overtime on service calls.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • The ability to diagnose and solve problems based on non-technical descriptions from customers.
