Job Summary:

The Private Funds group seeks a highly motivated senior attorney with significant private funds/asset management experience, including with both sponsor-side fund formation and institutional investor representation, to join the group as a Senior Knowledge Management Attorney (?Senior KM Attorney?). The successful candidate will play an important role in developing and implementing the private funds (?PF?) knowledge management (?KM?) strategy for and on behalf of the PF group, and in coordination with the Asset Management Practice?which includes the Registered Funds/Investment Management (?RF/IM?), Private Funds Regulatory (?PFRG?), PF and Derivatives & Commodities (?D&C?) groups.

This attorney will play a lead role in working with members of the PF group to define its KM strategy, as well as drive critical changes to the PF group?s KM capabilities to help meet defined strategic goals. The ideal candidate should have both relevant practice experience and knowledge management experience, such as working with forms and managing precedent documents.

The Senior KM Attorney?s responsibilities will be primarily non-billable but may also include billable client deliverables (expected to account for no more than about a quarter of the attorney?s time).

Duties/Responsibilities:

Working closely with the Private Funds Specialty Group Leaders (?SGLs?), partners and practice group members, and coordinating with members of the PF KM attorney team and the firm?s knowledge management, professional development and practice development departments, the Senior KM Attorney will have the following primary responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of the PF group?s KM strategy in collaboration with other members of the PF KM team. Identify, recommend, facilitate group consensus around and implement effective, tools, solutions and processes that will help the PF group achieve its strategic goals
  • Stay at the forefront of private funds market developments and trends. Proactively identify and implement changes to PF KM strategy and corresponding KM tools, resources and processes that will keep the PF group at the cutting edge of market developments.
  • Proactively identify and prioritize which KM-related client deliverables should be developed, revised, or updated in alignment with PF KM strategy. Drive the development and enhancement of best practices and processes for maintaining PF KM resources and materials with an eye towards prioritization and efficiency.
  • Identify and drive the prioritization and management of and enhancements to forms, checklists, and other KM resources. Ensure that updates to KM resources reflect legal and regulatory changes and developments and are in alignment with PF KM strategy.
  • Serve as the PF group?s representative on firm-wide KM-related task forces and working groups; share, coordinate, and adopt best practices. Coordinate on behalf of the PF group and as needed, the Asset Management Practice with respect to firm-wide and Corporate Department KM initiatives, and with other practice groups.
  • In coordination with the PF KM attorney team, develop an enhanced training program for attorneys, paralegals and others on the group?s KM resources, precedent and forms libraries, and other KM matters and systems. Identify and drive management of and enhancements to practice group reference and training materials.
  • Proactively seek out, evaluate, and recommend third-party resources that deliver legal and market knowledge and solutions that are complementary to the PF practice?s strategy.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • J.D. degree and a minimum of 10-15 years of relevant practice experience, including experience working in a large law firm. Practice experience may be a combination of in-house and large law firm positions. A minimum of 5 years at a large law firm is preferred.
  • Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction you are applying.
  • Ability to establish credibility with Ropes & Gray attorneys and work with professional staff across a variety of functions in a multi-office environment.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Must be able to prioritize work to keep up with the needs of the business. Will need to analyze and present competing approaches to KM, steer toward consensus among competing views and guide the practice to make decisions and implement agreed upon solutions.
  • Strong writing ability, including facility with partnership agreements and other fundraising agreements, ability to communicate clearly, and excellent research skills.
  • Experience with and comfort in using internet and intranet technologies. Data analysis and management skills and/or openness to developing and learning such skills.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and systematizing skills and proven attention to detail.

Compensation

In accordance with New York?s Pay Transparency Law, the anticipated pay range for this position is $250,000 - $375,000, which represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary, year-end bonus.
