Job Description


We are seeking a detail-oriented in-house counsel to support legal review of marketing, advertising and communications materials, both public-facing and internal, for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. This role will work closely with the marketing, communications, and business teams, along with other members of the in-house counsel team, to mitigate legal risks while supporting business objectives.

Senior Counsel (Marketing & Communications Law)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Marketing, Advertising & Communications Review:
  • Review and approve marketing materials, social media posts (including content provided by influencers and advocates), press releases, website content, and other communications for compliance with advertising, intellectual property, and consumer protection laws. Review will also evaluate clarity of message and consistency with existing company statements and positions.
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., FTC, FDA, SEC, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, etc., as applicable).
  • Provide guidance on disclaimers, disclosures, and substantiation requirements for advertising claims.
  • Brand & Intellectual Property Protection:
  • Identify potential intellectual property risks, including trademark and copyright issues.
  • Assist in the clearance of promotional campaigns.
  • Regulatory & Legal Compliance:
  • Stay up to date on evolving regulations affecting marketing and public communications, and those affecting the company?s operations in the U.S. and globally.
  • Assist in developing internal policies and best practices for compliant marketing practices.
  • Conduct training for marketing and other business teams on advertising law, consumer protection, and related topics.
  • Contract & Policy Support:
  • Assist in drafting and negotiating marketing-related agreements, such as sponsorship, licensing, and co-marketing agreements, and related provisions in other agreements.
  • Review and update terms of service, privacy policies, and other website policies as needed.
  • General Legal Support:
  • Conduct legal research on advertising, digital media, and regulatory matters.
  • Collaborate with external counsel when necessary.
  • Support broader legal team initiatives as needed.

Qualifications:

    • J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction required.
    • 10+ years of legal experience, preferably with exposure to regulatory
  • compliance strongly preferred.
    • Ability to identify legal and business risks, opportunities and effort needed to achieve balance of legal requirements and business objectives strongly preferred.
    • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal
  • stakeholders strongly preferred.
    • Understanding of consumer protection laws strongly preferred.
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams strongly preferred.
  • Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills preferred.
  • Detailed-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills preferred.

Shift:Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm EST

HYBRID: This hybrid position offers a balanced schedule of three in-office days at our Burlington or Durham, NC locations and two remote workdays per week, supporting both collaboration and flexibility.

All job offers will be based on a candidate?s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.

The position is also eligible for an annual bonus under the Labcorp Bonus Plan. Bonuses are payable based on corporate and/or business segment performance and are subject to individual performance modifiers.

Benefits: Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
