The Manager of Volunteer Services plays a pivotal role in enhancing the impact of volunteerism by setting the strategic direction for the Volunteer Services Department. This position is responsible for the management and oversight of all Volunteer Services aligning volunteer initiatives with the organization's mission, overseeing volunteer recruitment, engagement, and disaster preparedness efforts across multiple counties. The role includes leading strategic initiatives, developing high-level curriculum, helping with funding solicitation and deliverables, managing Days of Service, developing and leading corporate engagement projects, and is responsible for the online volunteer matching portal. To prepare for disasters, the Manager takes a lead role as one of CVNL's representatives on one or more Community Agencies Responding to Disaster cohorts.This role is instrumental in ensuring that CVNL fulfills its mission of equipping strong nonprofits with confident and prepared leaders and volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Develop and implement the strategic vision for the Volunteer Services Department.
  • Align volunteer programs with the organization's mission and strategic goals.
  • Provide high-level leadership to department staff, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Oversee data collection in Volunteer Services to inform strategic decisions and program improvements.
  • Directly manage department staff.

Volunteer Recruitment, Matching, and Recognition

  • Oversee the recruitment and management of volunteers through presentations, outreach activities, and the VolunteerNow.org portal.
  • Plan and implement major Days of Service and corporate engagement projects.
  • Ensure accurate tracking, analysis, and reporting of volunteer engagement metrics.
  • Foster strategic partnerships with volunteer groups (schools, community groups, corporations, faith-based organizations, etc.).

Budgeting and Financial Oversight

  • Manage the department's budget, ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Secure funding through grants, corporate partnerships, and other fundraising efforts.
  • Provide detailed financial reports and analysis to the CEO and board.

High-Level Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders, including board members, major donors, and corporate partners.
  • Oversight of the Solano County Contract ensuring adherence to deliverables and assisting in meeting engagement goals.
  • Represent the organization at high-level meetings, conferences, and media engagements.
  • Advocate for volunteer services and the organization's mission at local, regional, and national levels.

Policy and Procedure Development

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure all volunteer programs adhere to best practices and legal requirements.
  • Develop a process to increase engagement with the volunteer portal to develop new revenue streams

Disaster Services

  • Lead the local Emergency Volunteer Center (EVC) for the counties CVNL serves including donation management.
  • Manage disaster-related contracts with local government agencies and funders
  • Represent CVNL at COAD or VOAD and long-term recovery groups.
  • Develop relationships with emergency management personnel and conduct relevant training.
  • Manage the Disaster On call List leading quarterly engagement outreach.
  • Develop educational disaster training curriculum, manage logistics of training, collect and upload engagement information and survey outcomes for grant reporting.

Nonprofit Capacity Building on Volunteer Engagement

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with service providers, organizational and government/public partners, including nonprofit agencies.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team for effective messaging to identify and lead strategic campaigns aligned with organizational direction and VS department initiatives
  • Create and facilitate volunteer management & engagement trainings and workshops as needed on topics such as the Volunteer Engagement Training Program & Volunteer Manager Peer Learning Network.
  • Assist Events Team as appropriate and needed to secure Volunteer nominations and/or volunteers for events.
  • Foster relationships with nonprofit staff to promote the hosting of corporate volunteering projects, participation in Learning & Leadership trainings, usage of CVNL consulting and executive search, and learning best practices from one another.
  • Assist in the planning and promotion of Volunteer Services by representing CVNL at relevant community forums and event

Expected Hours of Work/Travel:
This is an onsite position is based out of either our Santa Rosa or San Rafael office with occasional travel within the four North Bay communities we serve with standard mileage reimbursements available. Standard hours are Monday through Friday 9am-5pm with the ability to work occasional events or meetings on weekends or evenings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Work, related field or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the nonprofit sector preferably in Volunteer Services programs.
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience with staff with strong leadership skills and ability to motivate and manage staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of volunteer management best practices and ability to stay up to date with emerging trends and best practices.
  • Knowledgeable project manager and familiar with how to lead project management software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, CRM and volunteer management software
  • Knowledge and ability to work with social media and marketing programs.
  • Ability to multi-task, while still being detail oriented
  • Ability to relate to clients, volunteers and staff in a professional, efficient, friendly, calm and helpful manner
  • Knowledge of budgeting and reporting.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Bilingual in Spanish highly preferred.
  • CERT training highly preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse groups of varying cultures, ethnicities, age groups, abilities, etc.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid CA driver's license and proof of auto insurance.

Compensation:
The budgeted starting salary that CVNL reasonably expects to pay for this position is $78,000 to $92,000 annually. This takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, external market comparisons for similar positions in similar geographic locations and size. Offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
