Job Description

General Litigation Attorney

The Harris County District Attorney?s Office (HCDAO) located in Houston, Texas, is the fourth largest prosecutor?s office in the country serving more than 4.7 million people. The Division attorneys also review and litigate requests for expunctions, represent the State in contempt proceedings, respond to record requests, facilitate out of state witness coordination and all aspects of fugitive matters.

Duties:

  • Representation of the District Attorney, the Office, and staff in state and federal state civil litigation;
  • Representation of the Office in expunction proceedings, including screening and guidance defense attorneys and pro se petitioners and litigation.
  • Representation of the State in criminal contempt prosecutions - both as prosecutors and defense of staff members.
  • Representation of the State in judicial recusal hearings.
  • Representation of the State in fugitive extradition proceedings and assistance with out of state witness appearances.
  • Gatekeeping of District Attorney?s records; respond to Public Information Act requests and subpoenas for all levels of prosecution files and related records; produce and litigate as appropriate.
