Purpose:
To cultivate and lead the worship music ministry of our church in collaboration with the pastor and other team members, ensuring an experience that nurtures spiritual growth and development for both the choir and the congregation.
High Level Responsibilities:
- Create and execute a vision for enriching the congregation's worship experience through music and the arts.
- Plan and select music for Sunday worship and special services in collaboration with the Pastor and Worship Team, ensuring a diverse repertoire that aligns with the congregation's diversity, sermon themes, and scripture.
- Lead vocally during worship, providing musical guidance and inspiration.
- Recruit, mentor, and lead music team members, musicians, and ensembles, fostering growth and encouraging their participation in worship services.
- Arrange music for services when the choir is unavailable, ensuring a seamless worship experience.
- Direct the Chancel Choir and ensembles with musical skill and spiritual intent, including leading regular weekly evening rehearsals.
- Develop seasonal music programs for children and youth in collaboration with the Worship Team, cultivating their engagement in worship.
- Work closely with accompanists during services and rehearsals to support musical excellence and cohesion.
Additional Responsibilities and Hours Expected:
- Engage in Sunday worship, including rehearsal, service participation, and post-service community fellowship.
- Be present for major religious holidays including Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Christmas Eve, and all scheduled Christmas/New Years Day services.
- Lead choir rehearsals every Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm, fostering musical excellence and spiritual unity.
- Attend essential meetings, such as Worship Team and Discipleship Council gatherings, ensuring collaboration in ministry planning.
- Prepare and send music selections and lyrics for Sunday worship in a timely manner.
- Maintain clear and efficient communication with staff and musicians, ensuring seamless coordination.
- Oversee CCLI reporting, ensuring compliance and proper licensing for church music.
- Manage the music program's budget, making responsible financial decisions within the annual allocation.
Qualifications:
- A genuine and committed relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
- A clear understanding of and alignment with the beliefs and tenets of the United Methodist Church.
- Strong interpersonal skills, fostering connections with individuals from diverse musical backgrounds.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire, effectively organizing, coordinating, and motivating musicians and team members.
- Reliable, responsible, self-driven, and creative, demonstrating initiative and dedication to ministry.
- Professionalism and teamwork, working collaboratively with staff and adhering to supervisory guidance.
Musical Competencies:
- Proficiency in a diverse range of musical styles, including hymns, gospel, and contemporary worship music.
- Strong vocal ability, with sight-reading skills preferred.
- Experience in producing and directing special events, musicals, and worship programs.
- Expertise in choral conducting and accompanying musicians.
- Ability to teach vocal techniques across all skill levels, with a preference for developing soloists.
- Music degree preferred, but not required, with equivalent experience considered.
Salary:
- $15,000 Annually
