Job Description

The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. As an employee of USC, you will be a part of a world-class research university and a member of the "Trojan Family," which is comprised of the faculty, students and staff that make the university what it is.

The Neurologic Institute (NI), the Developmental Neuroscience and Neurogenetics Program (DNNP) and The Saban Research Institute (TSRI) at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) seek to hire an outstanding faculty investigator (tenure track) in the Division of Neurology of the Department of Pediatrics of the Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California (USC). The ideal candidate will have a robust research program that focuses on the immunology of the developing nervous system and/or neuroinflammatory disorders in children. Building on the existing clinical and translational expertise, we seek a basic or translational scientist with a strong background in collaborative immunology research to join our institute and collaborate with colleagues at KSOM and USC.

Successful applicants will have earned a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD, completed a minimum of two years of postdoctoral training, and demonstrated a track record of successful extramurally funded research or with a strong potential of developing innovative research programs that attract extramural funding. Candidates must have a strong commitment to and evidence of an explicit commitment to diversity and of advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups. The selected candidate will join a collaborative, inclusive, and dynamic group of investigators with neurological and neurodevelopmental research interests. Prospective faculty members can draw from an outstanding and diverse pool of graduate and MD/PhD students from KSOM and USC to grow their research program. TSRI supports research administration, a robust postdoctoral training office, education and professional development activities and a successful intramural research awards program for pre- and postdoctoral fellows, junior faculty, team science and second R01s. The selected candidate also will enjoy access to shared TSRI core facilities [https://www.chla.org/research/core-facilities]. There also will be an opportunity to develop an immunology-focused core as part of TSRI, in collaboration with faculty colleagues at KSOM.

The annual base salary range for this position is $81,811-$517,500. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

The Division of Neurology is part of the Neurosciences Service Line. The Division of Neurology is currently undergoing rapid expansion with the development of comprehensive clinical general and sub-specialty child neurology programs as well as enhancement of its research portfolio. An integrated clinic space for the Divisions of Neurology and Neurosurgery opened in the Spring of 2021. The goal of the Neurological Institute (https://www.chla.org/the-neurological-institute) is to offer comprehensive and integrated neurologic services in a patient-centered environment. Neurology & Neurosurgery has been consistency ranked nationally among the top 10 programs in the US News & World Report rankings.

CHLA and USC are equal opportunity, affirmative action employers. The division greatly values diversity and is committed to building a vibrant and culturally diverse community of faculty, trainees and staff that best reflects the patients and families that we serve. Individuals from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
