We need a dedicated surgical assistant to join our team. You'll help our surgical team by applying bandages, sterilizing the surgery area, putting in tubes and IV lines, taking care of patients before and after surgery, and doing some office work like keeping records and answering phones.
To be a good surgical assistant, you should be a team player with good communication and people skills. You should also know how to use surgical tools and equipment, and know basic medical tasks.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Helping if a patient has a heart attack or other emergency
- Keeping the surgery area clean and sterile, removing hair and cleaning the incision area
- Checking and getting needed sterile and non-sterile tools and supplies
- Adjusting the temperature, humidity, and lighting in the operating room
- Stitching, stapling, or using other tools to control bleeding
- Positioning patients to protect their nerves and blood flow, and checking on them after surgery
- Keeping the surgery area clear with tools like retractors, sponges, and suction devices
- Watching patients' vital signs, position, and how much blood they're losing
- Helping the surgical team get ready and giving them tools and supplies
