Town Attorney

POSITION SUMMARY:

Primary legal counsel to the Mayor, Town Council, Town Manager, all Town departments, offices, boards, commissions and committees. Represents the Town in all legal proceedings before local, state and federal courts and agencies. Supervises and directs department staff in carrying out all advisory, civil and criminal duties of the Town. Responsible to the Town Manager in day-to-day legal affairs of the Town of Silver City.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid NM Driver?s License with an acceptable driving record or ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire.
• Must be a member in good standing of the State Bar of New Mexico or eligible for membership upon hire.
• License to practice law in the State of New Mexico and in United States federal courts or ability to acquire license withing six (6) months of hire.
• Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school or university.
• Five (5) years of experience in the areas related to municipal government, litigation, bonds, land use, contracts, tort liability, planning, zoning, property, labor and personnel law, and criminal procedures.
