Description of Job
Mancos State Park in southwestern Colorado is an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts and travelers year-round. Many visitors choose Mancos as their camping base while exploring nearby attractions like Mesa Verde National Park, the San Juan Skyway, public lands and Durango. The main attraction of the park is the 750 surface acres of Jackson Gulch Reservoir. Visitors are able to fish from shore or from wakeless boats, or enjoy a day on the water with their paddlecraft. Visitors to Mancos also enjoy the 32
campsites, 2 yurts, hiking trails, Group Picnic Area, and day use areas.

MAINTENANCE TECH: Responsible for general park maintenance, cleaning of public facilities (including restrooms, vault toilet facilities, yurts, campsites, picnic areas, offices, trails and common areas, etc).
VISITOR CENTER TECHINCIAN: A customer service based position that involves working in a visitor center greeting visitors, and/or may be assigned to work as an entrance gate attendant. Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
INTERPRETIVE NATURALIST: This position supports the park by delivering high-quality interpretive and educational programming for visitors. It helps connect the public to the park's natural, cultural, and recreational resources through talks, guided walks, demonstrations, and hands-on activities. This position also staffs the Visitor Center at least two days a week and as needed at other times. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
All of the duties of the Visitor Services Technician
Schedule, plan, coordinate, and present the seasonal program calendar
Develop and deliver a variety of interpretive programs, including guided hikes, nature walks, campfire talks, children's programs, wildlife presentations, Junior Ranger programs, school and group programs, outreach programs, and other recreation opportunities (fishing etc.)
Present information in clear, engaging ways aligned with the agency's interpretive standards
Help promote programs through flyers, social media content, bulletin boards, or park communication channels
Create informal interpretive opportunities in campgrounds and day use areas through roving interpretation, visitor contact, and spontaneous educational interactions
Collect, catalog, organize and protect park collections of slides, photographs, specimens, etc.
Track program attendance and visitor contacts
Attend assigned training sessions, which may require statewide travel
Work with individual and group volunteers
May train volunteer naturalists
Work with other State, Federal and local agency naturalists
Other duties as assigned
These positions are up to 40 hours per week and up to nine months in duration. School schedules MAY be accommodated.
Housing may be available for one employee in the Park's tiny home. Additionally, one Full Hook- Up RV site may be available for seasonal staff with their own RV or camper.
