Parker Meggitt (Securaplane) a recent addition to Parker Hannifin, is a global leader in the Commercial and Military Aerospace markets, specializing in a wide range of products including fire and smoke detection systems, extinguishing systems, bleed air overheat detection systems, actuators, rudder pedal assemblies, pumps, fuel gauging systems, and high-temperature cables. Located in Oro Valley, AZ, this site is within the Fire Safety & Power Systems Division (FSPSD) and is a key supplier of camera systems, energy storage products, and security systems in aerospace markets. We work directly with some of the largest aerospace companies in the world, including Airbus, Boeing, Gulfstream, Bombardier, Embraer, and Textron, among others

Systems Engineer Intern

Position Summary

The Systems Engineer Intern supports the Engineering Department in its execution of engineering design changes in a timely manner and supplement the systems engineering role in preventing or correcting quality defects, resolving production problems, managing requirements, executing requirements testing, and contributing to the development of products for aerospace applications.

Job Core Responsibilities

+ Systems Engineering support role for products including:

• Allocation of system requirements
• Allocation of system tests and evaluations
• Reliability analyses of articles and total systems
• Validate article and system test configurations
• Develop and validate test equipment and procedure requirements
• Perform hands-on construction of article and system test equipment
• Participate with system of processes development for (FAA) requirement and regulation compliance
• Developing systems engineering reports and reliability analyses
• Drafting test plans and procedures
• On the job learning of Systems Engineering principles and Meggitt Tucson Processes
• Drafting of Engineering Changes at the direction of Engineers
• Employ knowledge and skills learned from school in day-to-day work
• Regular contact with Electrical Engineers, Laboratory Technicians, Electrical and Systems Engineers, and Quality Assurance team members at Meggitt Tucson's facility
• Develop positive and professional working relationships to accomplish tasks
• Accountable to generate accurate documentation at the direction of Electrical Engineers, Airworthiness Personnel, Laboratory Technicians
• Accountable to maintain a perspective of constant learning
• Accountable to keep track of assignments and prioritize tasks at the discretion of the Engineering Manager
• Accountable to effectively manage work and school balance
• Accountable to participate in department improvement initiatives
• Maintain an acceptable attendance record. Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required.
• Other responsibilities as assigned

Physical Requirements

• Approximately 80% sitting and 20% standing/walking about indoors
• Lift and Carry up to 35 lbs.
• Use head and neck in static position, looking up/down and side-to-side.
• Perform light lifting from floor, table and shelf.
• Push and pull carts or mobile tables, loaded and unloaded.
• Minimal: heavy lifting from floor or higher, bending, twisting, climbing, lifting arms above shoulders, kneeling.
• Minimal: exposure to excessive noise, hazardous chemicals, hazardous equipment, uneven walking surfaces
• Typing with computer and keyboard

Qualifications

Education: Currently studying under a BSSE, BSME, or BSEE at a 4 year university (Studying under a postgraduate degree is also acceptable)

Certifications: N/A

Years of Experience: Currently enrolled in Junior level Engineering classes (300 level) or higher level with a minimum GPA of 3.0

Work Schedule:Work between 12 and 30 hours per week depending on school schedule and school commitments.

This is a year-round internship position with the potential to last through graduation. Work hours are flexible and determined based on school schedule. Up to 20 hours per week during the school year with potential for more hours during breaks and in the summer. Candidates must be local to the Tucson/Oro Valley areas.

• Proven track record of commitment to schoolwork
• Basic knowledge of systems engineering preferred
• On the job training of engineering tools, such as IBM DOORS, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Altium will be provided.
