Parker Lord is looking for a Sr. Scientist within the Electronic Materials Product Development team in Cary, NC. This team of scientists and technologists is focused on commercializing new polymeric products, developing new technologies, and supporting existing Parker Lord products, such as adhesives, sealants, and conductive materials. The primary function of the incumbent is to lead medium term new product development projects to support the technical and marketing strategies of the Parker Lord APS Division. This role is in a laboratory setting and the incumbent will be working alongside other scientists and engineers in a safe, inclusive, and data driven environment.

This position will be located in Cary, NC and will be in a chemical lab environment.

  • Project leader for new innovative product development projects of medium to high complexity.
  • Applies advanced technical principles, theories and concepts. Contributes to development of new principles and concepts within Parker Lord. A knowledge resource for their team. Advanced knowledge of products and or industry - detailed customer application, detailed value proposition elements.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering/Advanced Technology/Application Engineering/Manufacturing/Regional teams/Business teams to achieve project results.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing regarding various topics to external customers, management, manufacturing facilities, peers, and stakeholders.
  • Actively invents, develops and implements new products technologies/solutions.
  • Able to evaluate current chemical products and identify areas of improvements regarding safety, quality, performance, or cost.
  • Strategic technical leadership by identifying new solutions, new equipment, new suppliers for existing challenges.
  • Advanced design and execution of any set of parameters. Advanced data analysis, report generation. Track record of developing technical solutions to a wide range of highly complex problems. Solutions should generate intellectual property (patents, trade secrets). Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practical and consistent with organization objectives.
  • Responsible for insuring achievement of appropriate safety, quality, quantity, cost-effectiveness, reproducibility, and timeliness of results.
  • Leads external customer trials, alongside Application Engineering staff.
  • Uses advanced statistics and design of experiments.
  • Promotes safety and may lead in the development of new lab safety procedures.
  • Conducts technical training for staff.
  • Requires occasional travel within the US, with possible international travel.

Education Requirement: D egree in Chemistry, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or similar. BS with 5 years relevant work experience. MS with 4 years relevant work experience. PhD with 0 years relevant work experience.

  • Strong knowledge of polymers, chemistry, and material science.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to effectively work in diverse, inclusive, cross-functional and global teams.
  • Requires the handling of chemicals and must possess strong safety awareness with adherence to company quality and ethics policies.
  • Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in statistics, statistical software such as JMP/Minitab, MS Excel, Word, and SAP.
