WHAT WILL I DO AS A SENIOR DEPUTY COUNTY COUNSEL?
Is assigned, both directly and through supervision, complex litigation involving contracts and information technology.
Acts as principal legal advisor to a large County department or special district, supervising and participating in the resolution of difficult legal questions regarding powers, jurisdiction, procedures and operations.
Oversees the review and resolution of complex, multi-agency issues, requiring coordination within the office and between County departments/agencies.
Drafts or oversees the drafting of ordinances, legislation, and amendments to State and County codes related to the most complex issues.
Provides legal advice and representation to the Board of Supervisors, Chief Executive Office, and County departments/agencies concerning legal matters in the areas of information technology, telecommunications and public contracting, including, but not limited to, procurement of software and other intellectual property licenses, and system development, implementation and maintenance of solutions impacting County operations.
Represents and guides County departments/agencies in public procurement processes, and drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex information technology and telecommunications contracts with private vendors and governmental agencies.
Advises County departments/agencies and County Counsel on the selection and monitoring of law firms; supervises outside counsel representing the County in transactional and litigation matters related to information technology, telecommunications and public contracting issues.
Represents the County and County-related agencies in State and federal courts in contract related litigation.
Drafts ordinances, resolutions, policies, legislation, and opinions relating to information technology, telecommunications, and public contracting issues as requested by the Board of Supervisors and County departments/agencies.
Advises and represents County officials, departments/agencies, special districts, and commissions regarding applicable municipal and governmental law in order to resolve difficult legal questions regarding such matters.

OUR ASSESSMENT PROCESS
This assessment type will include an evaluation of training, experience, and desirable qualifications you list on the questionnaire and assign a score based on a standardized scoring system. This part of the assessment is worth 100% of your total score and assesses: Professional/Technical Knowledge in the experience requested.
Applicants must meet the selection requirements and must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the assessment in order to be placed on the Eligible Register.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
Candidates who passed the assessment(s) are placed on the Eligible Register in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months. Passing this examination and being placed on the Eligible Register do not guarantee an offer of employment. We will use this list to fill vacancies throughout County Counsel.
RETAKE: NO PERSON MAY COMPETE FOR THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY SIX (6) MONTHS.
NO WITHHOLDS OR OUT-OF-CLASS EXPERIENCE WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR THIS EXAMINATION.
VETERAN'S CREDIT
If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran's credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score. We will need a copy of your form DD214 to review, so please include that with your application or email it to CoCoExams@counsel.lacounty.gov within seven (7) calendar days from the date of applying.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION
All County Counsel employees are fingerprinted and subject to a criminal background check by the State Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Employment is contingent upon passing this background check. Job-related convictions as defined by County policy, or the requirements of a \"sensitive position\" might result in a disqualification of the appointment.
