The Opportunity

This position works out of our

Chicago ? Willis Tower

location in the Data Science & Engineering team. Abbott's Data Science & Engineering organization accelerates data-driven solutions and creates business value across the organization related to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Analytics, and Big Data. We use state-of-the-art technologies, build cutting-edge data solutions that solve complex health challenges, and develop reliable, cost-effective tools.

The Senior Data Engineer role will work closely with cross-functional business teams and technical teams, and will be responsible for designing, developing and deploying state-of-the-art big data solutions on cloud.

The role will develop standards, build best practices, and support IT defects.

What You'll Work On

Provide technical leadership and oversight in data solutions development as related to data engineering initiatives.

Hands-on design, implement, and maintain scalable and optimized cloud data architectures that meet evolving business needs

Continuously optimize data pipelines for improved reliability, performance and optimized cost.

Establish monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and address potential data pipeline issues.

Create and deliver documentations to meet compliance requirements

Collaborate with business and engineering teams to define data requirements and drive data-driven decision-making.

Transform data analytical results into actionable recommendations for business partners using deep industry knowledge

Support Generative AI and AI initiatives by developing data models to apply to multiple source systems that support solution deployment

Communicate and educate technical concepts and best practices effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Track latest technologies and new service offerings, bring insights and innovations into big data solutions.

Provide technical oversight and guidance to team members.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in the field of STEM or equivalent relevant experience/ Master?s Degree preferred

6+ years' experience of IT platform implementation in a highly technical and analytical role.

Hands-on experience in data lake and data analytics solution components from AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Databricks.

Expertise in ETL tools and data engineering programming languages (Python, Scala, SQL)

Strong understanding of data modeling concepts and data architecture for both structured and unstructured

Experience with Data Ops (cluster management, Databricks configurations, Terraform) in Cloud Computing environments and associated cloud data platforms, cloud data warehouse designs, BI and advanced analytical platforms.

Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Customer facing skills to drive discussions with business functions regarding best practices, cost management and risk mitigation

Strong verbal and written communications skills and ability to deliver effectively.

Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, actionable manner

Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools is preferred

Experience with AI/genAI solutions is preferred

Experience in Healthcare industry and understanding of regulatory and compliance policies is preferred

The base pay for this position is $85,300.00 - $170,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
