Senior Backend Engineer (April 2025)

V! Studios' IT Servicesteam is seeking a U.S. Citizen for full-time employment as a Senior Backend Engineer. Whether it's developing a serverless OCR system with the capacity to process 100,000 technical reports per month for a leading aerospace organization or teaming up with a leading economic think tank to rewrite their national economic simulation engine, we enjoy solving challenging problems for our clients by delivering robust systems with clear, maintainable code.

As our newest Senior Backend Engineer, you'll be joining a tight-knit team who takes pride in finding creative solutions to problems that intrigue and excite us. You'll use Serverless, Docker, and a mix of leading-edge AWS services including Lambda, StepFunctions, and DynamoDB to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain cloud-based web apps written in Python. We're looking for someone who loves to learn constantly and incorporate appropriate new technologies into our solutions. As a seasoned expert in your craft, you'll also be expected to both mentor and learn from your less-experienced team mates.

We prefer not to be woken up at night, so we design highly-available, fault-tolerant, auto-scaling systems. We also like to automate the boring stuff, so we embrace Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, and automated testing. We practice DevOps, and as a senior engineer you'll participate in our engineering on-call rotation.

You'll use our (spiritually, not religiously) Scrum/Agile process, Google Workspace, Slack, and Jira to collaborate with teammates & clients. In addition to working on traditional software projects, you'll periodically collaborate with V! Studios' highly decorated 3D Animation team on interdisciplinary projects.

Requirements

• Experience writing & testing RESTful API's in Python
• Experience writing containerized microservices
• Experience writing infrastructure-as-code (CloudFormation and/or Terraform)
• Experience with Continuously-Deployed HA cloud apps (Auto-scaling compute, data store, object store)
• U.S. Citizenship
• Willingness & ability to obtain a Public Trust credential for US government work, including fingerprinting
• Self-driven, analytical, and creative
• 12+ years of full-time experience writing production code

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience writing infrastructure-as-code (CloudFormation and/or Terraform)
• Experience using AWS ECS and/or Fargate to deploy containers
• Experience with Wagtail CMS
• AWS certification(s)
• Scrum and/or Agile certification(s)
