ADVERTISING TITLE: Senior Attorney
This open competitive advertisement is for a SES (Selected Exempt Service) position located at Central Office in the Office of General Counsel.
As a member of the Legal Services team at the Florida Department of Corrections, our mission is to provide comprehensive legal support and guidance to ensure that our operations comply with all applicable laws and regulations. JOB DUTIES:
- Offer insightful legal advice to agency leaders and field staff on daily operations and civil litigation matters.
- Represent the Department of Corrections and its officials in state and federal courts, as well as administrative tribunals, handling everything from evidence review to trial representation and appeals.
- Oversee a large caseload of administrative, state, and federal civil cases managed by outside counsel, developing comprehensive legal strategies, coordinating discovery, and reviewing pleadings.
- Review, analyze, and draft proposed legislation, ensuring departmental policies and procedures are legally sound, and providing guidance to agency staff.
- Tackle legally complex and sensitive assignments and perform various tasks assigned by the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Member of the Florida Bar in good standing.
- Two (2) years of experience as an attorney.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Member of the Florida Federal District Courts.
