Seed Production Specialist
to join our
Hermiston, Oregon
team!
This position provides leadership and support for Hybrid Seed Production, with emphasis on: field preparation and management to ensure high-quality seed; planting, detasseling and harvesting operations; plot maintenance; field data collection according to established protocols and timelines; and efficient conditioning, treatment, packaging and shipping of seed.

What You'll Do:
Manage fields in the Walla Walla growing area for quality and yield while exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate.
Assist with the Management of research trials including soybeans, canola, and corn in the Walla Walla growing area.
Includes mapping and point of contact with other locations to facilitate trial management.
Maintain, organize and summarize data associated with seed production including gathering data before, during and after planting, assisting personnel with field mapping, planting, integrated pest management, rouging, detasseling, and other general field activities.
Ability to use technology to collect, evaluate and distribute data.
Able and willing to work in Field Support activities including mapping, allocations, data collection for experiments and other activities where needed.
Effectively communicate with growers, direct reports and management.
Work closely with growers to produce a successful crop while proactively identifying production concerns and recommending actions to be taken within standard procedures.
May participate on hiring committees, organize and supervise temporary or seasonal workers, and supervise Research Assistants ensuring work is performed in a safe and efficient manner.
Participate on committees and teams related to but not limited to Safety, Field, Plant, Warehouse, and others.
Lead location safety programs as assigned.
Support processing and warehouse activities including harvest, drying, conditioning, treat/packaging and shipping through fall and winter
Relative to the production product load and or research trial numbers this position could be used as a flex position to support agronomist or other Seed Production Specialists to manage workload or support quality focus accountability.
What Skills You Need:
High school diploma with 2-5 years agriculture experience or Technical or Associate's degree in Agronomy, Biology, Plant Breeding or a scientific-related field (preferred)
Ability to develop, support and follow protocols
Basic math skills
FLEXIBILITY to change role to support location needs.
Intermediate computer skills including knowledge of multi-media tools (IPAD), Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work well with diverse groups of people.
Must have a current and active driver license and be willing to operate a vehicle
May be required to obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicators license in OR & WA
Willing and able to work in a variety of environments (plant, warehouse, or outdoor setting) when needed in various conditions (hot, cold, wet, and dry conditions)
Willingness to adapt to different roles/responsibilities as business needs change
Commitment to excellent safety and risk management practices
Willing and able to work a flexible schedule including shift work and overtime hours including weekend work required during seasonal peaks
Strong attention to detail
Able to make independent decisions.
Willing and able to lift up to 60lbs and complete work that involves repetitive motion and/or repetitive lifting
What Makes You Stand Out:
Working knowledge of production agriculture with emphasis on corn production
Basic Maintenance Experience
Research Plot/Data Collection Exposure
Bachelors of Science in a agriculture discipline
Ability to operate farm machinery
Knowledge of field equipment and techniques (planting, cultivating, irrigation, cutting, wheel-pulling, scouting, etc)
Previous training on field scouting
Supervisory experience
Class A CDL
Forklift experience
