Are you an experienced Risk Manager ready to collaborate and provide strategic oversight in the identification, measurement and management of risks? In this role, you'll be responsible for the comprehensive Safety and Risk Management Program, as well as Occupational Health.

Hours: Regular hours are Monday-Friday, 8 AM 5 PM. cell phone provided for after hours emergencies.

Starting Pay Range : $100,000 - $115,000/year, based on your experience

Up to $3,000 relocation is available.

Manage an annual operating budget more than $20 million, and a team of 11 employees, including 8 direct reports.

  • Develop and implement safety/risk policies and procedures adhering to local, state, and federal safety, health, and environmental regulations. Responsible for the management of in-house adjusting staff for property and liability claims and TPA oversight for auto and Workers Compensation programs.
  • Identify risks and exposure for losses to real, personal, and human resource assets.
  • Collect and submit underwriting data for the marketing of selected programs. Negotiate and develop insurance programs.
  • Direct and supervise all phases of the claims process from intake and investigation through litigation, settlement and/or trial.
  • Consult with, provide guidance and/or participate in negotiations, conferences, and mediations with adjusting companies, legal councils, Internal staff, claimants, etc. Prepares recommendations to the Board.
  • Prepare Requests for Proposals, risk management programs and various contractual services that support risk management programs; selects vendors; negotiates contracts; and administers or oversees the administration of established contracts.
  • Develop contractual insurance and indemnification requirements for projects.
  • Serve as senior internal consultant/advisor to managers, department heads and employees regarding risk management programs and services.
  • Represent the division before the board, senior managers, elected officials, contractors, vendors, and the general public.
  • Serve as primary liaison to insurance providers, underwriters, attorneys, and other parties regarding risk management programs and services.
  • Establish safety/risk program goals and objectives and budget based on statistical analysis, trends, benchmarking, and operational needs.
  • Facilitate appropriate balance of risk retention and risk transfer through various methods of self-insurance, purchased insurance and contractual transfer of risk.
  • Participate in emergency response activities related to disaster management. Serves as Safety Claims/Risk Unit in the Emergency Operations Center, when activated.
  • Develop, maintain, and revise policies and procedures for the general operation of the Employee Health Center (EHC) and its related Occupational Health and wellness activities to support employees. Collaborate with and supervise the EHC medical team to develop goals and provide oversight for compliance with Risk management programs and initiatives in line with Occupational Health Budget.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Insurance and Risk Management, Public or Business Administration, Management or related field AND- six (6) years of professional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • OR- a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Insurance and Risk Management, Public or Business Administration, Management or related field -AND- four (4) or more years of related experience.
  • OR- ten or more years of progressively responsible professional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree.
  • At least two or more years of supervisory experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Risk Management Professional (RMP), RIMS-Certified Risk Management Professional (RIMS-CRMP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar designation.

Clearance: The successful candidate will be subject to an extensive background check(s) as a part of the hiring process.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
