LAKE COUNTY PROSECUTING ATTORNEY

Position: Full-Time, Appointed Position
Salary: $116,923.61 annually (2025)
Location: Baldwin, Michigan
Residency Requirement: Individual must be a Lake County resident prior to appointment/oath of office.

Overview: Lake County, Michigan is seeking a qualified candidate to be appointed as the Prosecuting
Attorney. The appointed Prosecuting Attorney will serve until the next general election (November 2026)
and remaining term (January 1, 2027).

Office Structure: Lake County Prosecutor?s Office is a two-attorney office consisting of the Prosecuting
Attorney (elected/appointed) and a Chief Assistant Prosecutor. * The office is further supported by two
full-time staff positions: (1) Office Manager / Legal Support Staff and (1) Victim Advocate / Legal
Support Staff.

  • Chief Assistant Prosecutor Position is currently vacant. Appointed prosecutor to fill assistant
    prosecutor position upon appointment. Two full-time staff positions are currently filled.

Scope of Representation: The Prosecutor is responsible for prosecuting felony, misdemeanor and juvenile delinquency cases; related criminal and certain civil proceedings; and provides legal counsel to local law enforcement agencies. The Prosecutor is also responsible for management of the office and budget along with supervising and training office staff.

The Prosecutor?s Office does not currently represent the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in abuse and neglect proceedings, nor handle paternity establishment or child support establishment matters.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan.
  • Significant experience in criminal law and trial practice preferred.

Benefits:

Retirement: Employer contribution of 4%; if the employee elects to contribute 3%, the employer provides an additional 3% match.
Health Care Savings: $40 per pay period paid into a Retiree Health Care Savings Account.
Cell Phone: $50 per month (stipend)
