Principal Software Engineer, ABI Engineering

Come join the Alexa Built-In (ABI) team within the broader Alexa Enterprise organization and help us realize our vision of making Alexa the personal assistant of choice for branded devices in the home and on-the-go. As a Principal Engineer, you will take on an exciting and challenging role on a team that is innovating to bring Alexa to 3rd-party devices such as speakers, smart TVs, wearable, and more

You will work with industry leaders to seamlessly integrate Alexa and generative AI capabilities into their devices, driving a transformation in how millions of people interact with the devices in their homes, on the go, and in the workplace. This is a unique opportunity to be part of the exciting new era of large language models and their impact on the Alexa ecosystem.

You will think big and drive architecture decisions that extend Alexa's capabilities beyond the ABI product. You will create new experiences that amplify the unique capabilities of various devices, and build reusable primitives that can be leveraged across multiple 3-rd party device makers and products outside of ABI or Alexa

Key job responsibilities

Provide technical leadership and oversight for building new foundational primitives for embedding Alexa 1P experiences into the xApp platform.

Redefine the xApp fundamentals to align with the future architectural direction of the Alexa family of devices.

Work closely with various Alexa teams to ensure compatibility of the new components with 3P partner limitations.

Invent self-service capabilities that allow both 3P partners and ABI to independently validate new implementations, including certification, self-diagnostic, and troubleshooting.

Influence the broader organization to address gaps for 3P devices and avoid one-way door decisions as the architecture/systems are initially built for 1P hardware.

Basic Qualifications

10+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

Knowledge of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in designing and building large-scale systems in a multi-tiered and distributed environment
