Position description

The May Laboratory in the Division of Digestive Diseases at the University of California Los Angeles is seeking a full-time postdoctoral scholar to join our dynamic and productive research team. This individual will be engaged in a portfolio of health services and clinical research based in academic and community health system settings. Projects include trials in colorectal cancer screening and earl detection, early onset cancers, studies using large publicly available databases to evaluate national trends in health outcomes, health system interventions to optimize population health, and pragmatic implementation trials to improve uptake of preventive health services. The work involves secondary analyses, survey research, quantitative and qualitative methods, comparative effectiveness trials, program evaluation, implementation science, and utilization of electronic health records and other administrative databases for research purposes.

The position will include opportunity for in depth training in research methods, grant writing, impactful manuscript writing, and career strategy, as well as access to career development resources at UCLA. The individual will have the opportunity to further his/her research and leadership capabilities by authoring scientific manuscripts and presentations, participating in the development of grant proposals, mentoring students and clinical trainees, participating in community engagement activities and in the overall planning of new initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in health services research, public health, epidemiology or medical degree with public health/social science training
  • Strong methodological skills including research design, data analyses and data interpretation
  • Experience with conducting research using large scale healthcare data, cancer registry data, or the equivalent
  • Knowledge of program planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Prior experience or involvement in managing research projects
  • Knowledge of population science theory and practice; and implementation research with community partners, including academic and community health systems, including safety-net providers
  • Extensive experience conducting data analyses using R, STATA, or SAS
  • Ability to effectively work with community organizations, including clinical settings
  • Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, including scientific writing
  • Knowledge of and experience with policies and procedures for Human Subjects research
  • Demonstrated capacity to drive first author publications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications

Basic qualifications
