Position description

We are seeking an experienced Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. for a post-doctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Theodore Scott Nowicki, M.D., Ph.D. Applicants need to have Ph.D in biosciences, an interest in cancer immunotherapy and immunology, and an interest in T-cell biology.

Dr. Nowicki is an Assistant Professor-in-Residence in the Department of Pediatrics (Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology), and the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics. He is known for his studies of transgenic cellular immunotherapy/immune checkpoint blockade, functional epigenetics, DNA methylomics, and T-cell biology, with an emphasis in sarcomas and other solid tumors. Additionally, as a clinical specialist in pediatric oncology, Dr. Nowicki explores new and developing immunotherapies for pediatric sarcomas.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Philosophy in Biosciences, or related field of study <5 years from completion of PhD
  • Solid understanding of immunology/molecular biology and common laboratory approaches in immunology/molecular biology
  • Experience with murine models of adoptive cell therapy (tail-vein injection, intraperitoneal injection, phlebotomy, irradiation, splenocyte/T-cell isolation).
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and quickly adapt to new tasks
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with computational and experimental scientists
  • Ability to function independently in the laboratory

Skills:

  • Conduct DNA, RNA and protein isolation and purification
  • Quantification of nucleic acids and proteins
  • Perform PCR, qPCR, ddPCR, ELISA and multiparametric flow cytometry to assist on-going specific research projects.
  • Culture adhered and non-adherent mammalian cells (T-cells), preparing media, aliquots and other compounds utilized in tissue culture with proper sterile aseptic technique.
  • Experience with murine models of adoptive cell therapy (tail-vein injection, intraperitoneal injection, phlebotomy, irradiation, splenocyte/T-cell isolation)
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing analysis (WES, RNAseq, WGBS, and ATAC-seq) is not required, but preferred.
  • May train and supervise less experienced research staff.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conducting research as determined with Principal Investigator (PI)
  • Publish results of independent laboratory research in collaboration with lab PI, including writing of scientific manuscripts, abstracts and other supporting documentation
  • Participate in laboratory and Divisional seminars, meetings, educational sessions, general and specific safety training and other training sessions
  • Provide mentorship and teaching to other members of the lab which is comprised of PhD or MD students, post-docs, undergraduate students and summer students.
  • Pursue intramural and extramural funding opportunities to help fund current and future research endeavors.
  • Performs other duties and laboratory responsibilities as requested.
