Job Description

Serve as a Junior Autonomy Systems Engineer for the Leidos Innovation Center (LInC) in Huntsville, AL. Our team?s mission is to: (1) develop and demonstrate contested autonomy and navigation technologies to meet urgent military operational needs to operate in RF-challenged environments, and (2) rapidly transition this technology to operational platforms to outpace the adversary threats currently being faced in the field. We support a wide variety of military autonomous vehicles including drones, unmanned underwater vehicles, and ground robots. Project involve small teams of engineers working together in spiral or agile development environments to meet aggressive customer schedules aimed at near-term field demonstrations of emerging capabilities. Typical customers include Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Air Force Research Laboratory, Office of Naval Research (ONR), and Army engineering research centers.

The ideal candidate for this position will be someone who is excited about autonomous systems and thrives in a dynamic environment where there are many chances to learn new skills. This is a tremendous opportunity to get real-world experience in a variety of Systems Engineering disciplines in a short time and be customer-facing early in your career.

Primary Responsibilities

Support a variety of traditional systems engineering functions for fast-moving small-to-medium sizes projects. Our projects tend to focus on producing high-quality concise documentation rather than large formal documents that can be hundreds of pages.

Support requirements development (including deriving lower-level requirements, defining methods of verification, and developing requirements traceability verifications matrices).

Define and document interface requirements across subsystems including generation of interface control documents

Support development of program planning documentation including Project Plans, Project Schedules, Software Development Plans, and Technical Reports (including synthesizing inputs from slide inputs from multiple different subsystems into a cohesive final written report))

Perform software testing and quality assurance on prototype deliverables

Support material procurement and tracking for small quantities of hardware for prototype efforts

Track project progress (including calculation of Earned Value Metrics for schedule, budget, and technical performance) by distilling financial reports, evaluating task progress, and discussions with the engineering discipline leads

Support safety review preparations prior to field demonstrations

Develop documentation and user?s guide providing instructions to operators on how to use our systems successfully in the field

Support occasional travel for data collections and field demonstrations (typical duration no longer than 5 days)

Run replay analysis software to analyze collected data and summarize results and conclusions

Willingness to take on all needed tasks to help our team be successful on challenging deadlines, ranging from high level (customer briefings and solution development) to low level (planning logistics for travel events and TIMs, ordering and maintaining hardware inventory, etc.)

Expertise in particular areas can compensate for lack of experience in others, as long as the candidate is excited to take on new tasks and learn new skills as needed.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering or related technical field (including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering) with 2+ years of experience or a Master?s Degree in advanced technical field with 0 years or more of experience
