This is a full-time position and receives all benefits afforded to regular employees. This position requires working 40 hours per week.

SUMMARY: The purpose of this classification is to describe the specialized work associated with being an investigator for the Solicitor-General of Glynn County. This position requires the investigation of criminal cases presented to the Solicitor-General's Office. It requires the collection of evidence, reviewing case files, offering a recommendation of viability of offense and or the elevation of upgrading an offense from misdemeanor to felony, and to perform other tasks aiding in the prosecutor's preparation of trying misdemeanor criminal cases.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS: The following duties are typical. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Conduct investigations to gather additional evidence for misdemeanor cases in the Solicitor's office.
  • Identify and interview victims, witnesses, law enforcement officers, take photos of crime scene, request videos from law enforcement agencies, neighboring businesses or homes, gather statements.
  • Assist in determining whether cases are ready for prosecution by reviewing police reports, videos, photos, warrants, accusations, and supplement case files if needed.
  • Discuss cases and make recommendations to prosecutors as to whether sufficient evidence exists to successfully prosecute cases.
  • Prepare evidence for and attend trials.
  • Follows safety procedures, monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; performs driving functions in a safe and efficient manner obeying all traffic laws.
  • Run driver's license histories and criminal histories or other information needed from state/national (GCIC/NCIC) criminal information computer database.
  • Operate a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data. Operate of office equipment such as copies, phones, and scanners.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with prosecutors, co-workers, court personnel, law enforcement, victims, witnesses, and attorneys. Communication made be in person, via telephone, email or written correspondence.
  • Staying current with policies, procedures, statutes, case law and maintaining certifications.
  • Provide assistance to other employees or prosecutors as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent; Georgia P.O.S.T. certification (preferred) or supplemented by two (2) years of experience and/or training involving criminal investigations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
