Corteva Agriscience has an opening for an experienced patent attorney at its facility located in Johnston, Iowa. This is a highly visible, key role within Corteva's Intellectual Property group which provides an exciting opportunity to work closely with an in-house legal team, business partners and brilliant scientists involved in a variety of world-class technologies such as advanced breeding, genomics, CRISPR and artificial intelligence. An individual well-suited to this position must exhibit vision, integrity, commitment, leadership, self-motivation, maturity and judgement. Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities - What you will do to help us grow!

Freedom to Operate analysis.

IP portfolio development aligned with the business strategy.

U.S. patent drafting.

U.S. and foreign patent prosecution.

Patent administrative proceedings including IPRs, PGRs and Reexams.

Invention development.

Inventor education.

Patentability and landscape analysis.

Intellectual property transactions/agreements.

Experience and Education ? What you'll bring to the table!

Advanced degree (MS or PhD) from a reputable institution and a strong background in quantitative genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, breeding or in a related bioinformatics computer science discipline.

Attorney Position - Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA accredited law school in the U.S., admission to at least one State Bar in good standing and Registered to Practice before the USPTO.

Sr. Patent Agent - Previous advanced degree MS or PhD is sufficient.

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in drafting and/or prosecuting patent applications as a Registered U.S. Patent Attorney, preferably in a law firm.

This position requires hands-on patent application drafting, prosecution and freedom-to-operate analysis.

Capable of analyzing patent landscape and advising clients on FTO and patentability considerations for complex technologies.

Experience working with foreign associates to assist and coordinate filing and prosecution of international patent matters.

Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal direction.

Ability to maintain effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work tasks or work environment and to facilitate implementation and acceptance of change within the work place.

Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and ability to prioritize projects and meet aggressive deadlines.

Superior communication, influencing and networking skills.

Outstanding writing skills as demonstrated by original writing samples of patent applications, prosecution submissions, memorandums, and other communications.

The following skill sets are preferred by the Legal function but not required.

Post-graduate R&D laboratory experience for 2 or more years.

In-house legal department experience.

Experience with independently prosecuting large patent dockets.

Experience with developing and implementing IP strategies and IP portfolio analyses.

Leading and negotiating IP transactions/agreements.
