Job Description

AECOM is seeking a self-motivated Geologist/Hydrogeologist III in our Grand Rapids, MI office to assist with a variety of projects including data management, site investigations and remediation. The successful candidate will assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological and geochemical data in an office setting. The office activities will involve preparation of investigation reports, management of data, task managing numerous tasks, and supporting project managers with office related tasks. Familiarity with Michigan Part 201 and Part 213 requirements are preferred. Field activities may consist of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and the oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Fully qualified scientist. Utilizes scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.

Requires general familiarity within a broad field of scientific knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields.

Familiarity with Michigan Part 201 and Part 213 requirements.

Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.

Solves problems by use of combinations of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.

Participates closely with project managers to plan and task management projects to achieve prescribed objectives for our clients.

Tracks and maintains budgets and schedules in close coordination with the projects manager and our clients.

Participates in field kickoff meetings and coordination of field efforts with AECOM staff and subcontractors.

Participates in developing corrective measures and procedures. Formulates hypothesis, performs research and makes recommendation.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICAITONS

BA/BS with 4 years of experience in environmental remediation and investigation or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education

Role is subject to a Background, MVR and Medical Surveillance check

US Citizen/US Permanent Resident

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to travel up to 30% to various job sites within the US (Primary area of travel is Michigan and nearby states)

Michigan Part 201 and Part 213 knowledge is preferred

Task Management experience in environmental consulting in Michigan is preferred

Ability to demonstrate a primary technical role in multiple site characterization, subsurface investigation and remediation projects at various client sites

Collect and evaluate environmental data in field and office settings

Ability to lead site conceptual modelling work under supervision of Project Manager;

Possess technical report writing skills; prepare and/or lead preparation of investigation reports

Independent field work and leadership of field teams

Conduct and/or supervise field work, including

Driving to project sites

Subcontractor oversight

Utility clearance

Soil and bedrock drilling, characterization, and sampling

Monitoring well (groundwater and soil vapor) installation and test pit excavation

Soil, sediment, soil vapor, sanitary system, surface water, and groundwater sampling

Surface and borehole geophysical techniques

Aquifer testing, including slug tests, packer testing; step-drawdown and tracer tests

Remedial systems performance monitoring

Prepare and/or task manage plans, permits, and reports for hazardous waste, air quality, storm water, and wastewater programs

Perform and/or task manage Phase I and II environmental site assessments

Provide general environmental compliance support to clients, including on-site assistance, as needed

Support Project Managers on multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and confirm quality standards on project deliverables

Ability to clearly communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, and clients during field activities

Support Project Managers to effectively manage projects

30 hour OSHA Construction Supervisory certificate

First Aid/CPR certificate

Participate and develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition

Participate in project activity planning, and health and safety planning and oversight

Candidate must be proficient with basic computer programs like Microsoft Suite Programs

Additional Information

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $65,000.00 - $80,000.00.
