DevOps/Cloud Engineer - API Gateway at Scale US

We are seeking a DevOps/Cloud Engineer with expertise in managing APIs Gateway at scale , particularly with experience in API gateways like Kong . In this role, you will design, implement, and optimise scalable API infrastructure to ensure high availability and performance.

You will work closely with engineering teams to streamline API management, automate processes, and maintain reliable systems in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Your mission will be to

• Design, deploy, and manage API gateways (e.g., Kong) to support high-traffic, scalable applications.
• Optimise API performance and reliability through load balancing, caching, and rate-limiting configurations.
• Monitor and troubleshoot API traffic patterns, ensuring seamless integration and low latency.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) to manage API ecosystems.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines to automate deployment, testing, and scaling of API services.
• Ensure high availability and fault tolerance of API systems through robust infrastructure design.
• Establish and maintain monitoring and alerting for API gateways and services using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
• Analyse logs and metrics to proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks or issues in API traffic.
• Implement and optimise tracing solutions for end-to-end visibility of API requests.
• Work closely with engineering and product teams to align API strategies with business requirements.
• Define and enforce API standards, security protocols, and access controls to ensure compliance and reliability.
• Provide guidance on API lifecycle management, including versioning, deprecation, and updates.

Requirements

Background and experience

• 5+ years of experience
• Fluency in English.
• Proven experience with API management tools like Kong.
• Strong knowledge of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and API security best practices (e.g., OAuth, JWT).
• Experience with Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and their API management features.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus).
• Understanding of networking concepts.

The base salary range for this role is between $100,000 - $140,000 in the State of New York. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus. When determining a candidate's compensation, we consider a number of factors including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
