The Kentucky Court of Appeals has an immediate need for a Staff Attorney. The COA Staff Attorney is responsible for supporting a Court of Appeals judge by performing legal tasks and is responsible for reviewing legal briefs and appellate and high court records, conducting thorough legal research, preparing legal memoranda, analyzing cases, proofreading legal documents, and taking notes. This position is in Jefferson County.
Examples of Duties or Responsibilities of this Classification:
- Review process of legal briefs and appellate records, ensuring thorough understanding and organized documentation.
- Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis of case materials for court cases.
- Prepare and edit drafts of opinions, orders, and judgments under guidance.
- Proofread legal documents.
- Communicate with attorneys upon the direction of the judge.
- Support the Court in the creation and delivery of jury instructions with guidance.
- Monitor for and provide summaries of recent legal developments and decisions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
