Candidates must have experience in trademark law in a private law firm and must be admitted to, and in good standing with, the Texas, New York, or California Bar. Other qualifications include:
- Experience working on sizable trademark portfolios with oversight of a Partner or senior associate is preferred
- Trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement
- Drafting and negotiating licenses, coexistence agreements, and settlement agreements
- Working independently on assigned legal matters
- Exceptional skills in communication, interpersonal interactions, legal writing, and conflict resolution
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues, including in other practice groups and offices
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent client service
The description of this position is not exhaustive, and it may be necessary for the lawyer in this role to handle projects from time to time to assist other practice areas. Important responsibilities include:
- Performing a variety of tasks under the direct supervision of a partner or more senior associate; supervising more junior associates and paralegals;
- Seeking to understand, and become engaged in, each project and its related elements as fully as possible;
- Engaging in practice development activities: assist with articles, speeches and presentations; build relationships within and outside of Baker Botts;
- Communicating to supervisors fully, and in a timely manner, status of task completion and new developments that may impact the project or work undertaken;
- Applying the basic skills of legal research, writing and analysis with efficiency and high quality;
- Accepting responsibility for successful and timely completion of assigned tasks;
- Completing work accurately and professionally;
- Meeting expected levels of industry and commitment to Baker Botts;
- Demonstrating teamwork and congeniality in their work and relationships with partners, associates, paralegals and staff;
- Participating fully in professional development programs hosted by the firm;
- Keeping current on legal developments through self-study and reading;
- Becoming proficient in the basic technology systems on which the Trademark Staff lawyer will receive training;
- Attaining proficiency with practice-specific technology applications;
- Complying with the administrative requirements of Baker Botts, including, timely submission of time entries;
