Job Description


Job Responsibilities

  • Prosecutes violations of the Ethics Reform Act pursuant to the Administrative Procedures Act, to include coordinating complaint investigations and preparing settlement documents in cases that resolve prior to a hearing.
  • Interprets Commission policies and establishes practices and procedures for legal activities of the Commission.
  • Conducts training sessions across a variety of platforms on the roles and responsibilities of public servants, to include government attorneys, under the Ethics Reform Act.
  • Represents the Commission before the Administrative Law Court, Circuit Court, Court of Appeals and/or Supreme Court.
  • Prepares and presents Commission opinions to ensure proper interpretation and application of the Ethics Reform Act.
  • Furnishes legal advice to the Executive Director, Commission, and staff regarding the Ethics Reform Act when necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as requested by the Executive Director or General Counsel.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • Candidate must possess a juris doctor degree from an accredited law school and membership in good standing with the South Carolina Bar.
  • Candidate must have knowledge of South Carolina law and procedure.
  • Candidate must have the ability to interpret and apply laws, court decisions, and administrative guidance.
  • Candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Candidate must be able to work with independence and discretion, maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to independently manage assigned cases and prioritize workload.
