The Associate General Counsel provides professional legal support and counsel to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The duties and responsibilities of the Associate General Counsel are to advise on, draft, and negotiate contracts; provide legal counsel to academic and administrative leaders; advise Institute leaders on legal risks and the terms of various deals; provide legal guidance on strategic partnerships; identify and advise on regulatory requirements and emerging legal issues impacting the Institute; perform pre-litigation work to minimize risks and maximize legal rights; and represent the Institute in the areas that include of corporate, physical property, intellectual property, commercial, real estate and new venture matters. The Associate General Counsel also serves as a legal center of expertise for data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity compliance, including ensuring that terms with vendors are appropriate for protection in these areas.
The Associate General Counsel reports to the General Counsel and Secretary of the Institute.

Starting Salary/Rate
Expected hiring range: $195,000 - $206,000
Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate?s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate?s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer?s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
