J.D. degree from an accredited law school; membership in Maryland Bar.
Licensure:
Member of Maryland Bar
Experience:
12-15 years practice experience with a firm or in-house, with prior experience in corporate, transactional or regulatory healthcare law, fraud and abuse laws, and/or health care risk management is strongly preferred. This position requires first chair litigation experience, particularly health care related.
Skills:
- Ability to draft, review and negotiate various general corporate agreements, such as for vendors, data and software licensing and use, physician transactions, and asset purchase; write briefs and position statements, negotiate settlements and provide general legal advice to the health system clients. Skill in using a computer, Microsoft word, Outlook, Excel, and a variety of personal productivity applications.
- Knowledge of health care regulatory issues including fraud and abuse preferred.
- Employee has knowledge and understanding of patient and workforce safety as it relates to job duties.
- Demonstrates competency in the delivery of care and applies the knowledge to meet age-specific needs if applicable.
- Provides legal assistance and advice to hospital personnel on transactional, corporate, patient safety, health care risk management and regulatory and health care issues.
- Drafting, negotiation and review of contracts including vendor, employment, and other contracts involving GBMC HealthCare or related entities.
- Manages litigation and assists in working with outside counsel on matters related to claims and potential claims involving the healthcare system and its employees.
- Works with and oversees outside counsel on GBMC corporate or litigation projects.
- Assists the General Counsel as needed and provides coverage for and advice on hospital legal issues when General Counsel is not available.
- Writes, revises and reviews policies and procedures for legal sufficiency.
- Composes legal memoranda, position statements, opinions and general correspondence, works on matters related to insurance coverage and policies.
- Investigates incidents, and researches compliance and legal requirements for health care organizations.
- Participates in design and conduct of legal and risk management processes for investigations and for educational sessions. Conducts or directs educational programs for professional staff in risk management and legal regulatory and procedural topics.
