We are looking for a talented Electronic Systems Product Specialist to join our team specializing in Engineering in Columbus, IN.


In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:


Problem Resolution : Investigating electronic application and systems problems, understanding their causes, and recommending actions will ensure timely and effective resolution, improving system reliability.


Process Improvement : Applying and enhancing development processes and tools, including system specification, modeling, simulation, calibration, and troubleshooting, will streamline workflows and improve product quality.


Collaboration : Gathering input from customers, technical teams, manufacturing engineers, suppliers, and other stakeholders will lead to well-informed recommendations and quality product decisions.


Technical Decision-Making : Making informed decisions in electronic and electrical system design, requirements, calibration, and testing will directly impact the performance and quality of subsystems.


Mentorship : Reviewing the work of less-experienced developers and testers will ensure robust, reusable, and efficient designs, while also providing valuable mentorship and knowledge transfer.


Leadership : Leading smaller projects or complex components with full accountability will drive project success and demonstrate your ability to manage ambiguity and deliver results.


Process Development : Leading the development and improvement of work processes and systems within a functional discipline area will enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.


Team Coordination : Coordinating and directing work among technicians and temporary employees, and assisting in knowledge transfer, will ensure smooth project execution and build a stronger, more knowledgeable team.


RESPONSIBILITIES


To be successful in this role you will need the following:


Mechatronics Expertise : Ability to specify and apply electronic hardware and interconnections for measuring and controlling systems in Cummins' products.


Integration and Optimization : Skill in combining parts or sub-systems to achieve optimal performance, reliability, cost, and quality, using standard tools and best practices.


Modeling and Simulation : Proficiency in using computational tools to predict product capabilities and inform design decisions at various system levels.


Problem-Solving : Strong problem-solving skills to identify root causes, implement data-based solutions, and prevent recurrence of issues.


Verification and Validation : Experience in developing validation plans, managing product risks, and verifying product capabilities through analytical, simulation, and physical tests.


Requirements Engineering : Ability to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements, track their status, and manage changes throughout the system lifecycle.


Systems Thinking : Capability to define and analyze systems, understand their interactions, and predict behavior to achieve desired outcomes.


Networking and Communication : Effective at building relationships, communicating clearly with diverse audiences, and delivering results under challenging circumstances.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:


College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.


Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.


This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.


Experience:


Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making.


Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred

AI/ML Advanced Health Monitoring Technical Specialist


The advanced health monitoring technical specialist will be responsible for exploring and applying the latest combinations of AI and physics informed modeling technologies for the prognosis and fault isolation for the next generations of Cummins products. They will collaboratively assess and work through key technical risks of new technologies and evaluate them in a variety of prototype environments to simulate deployment and operational effectiveness. The position is part of a group tasked with rapid cycle innovation within the connected and automated technology platform offered by Cummins.


Job Responsibilities:


Leading complex projects and acting as an expert within the team


Exploring and applying advanced techniques for health monitoring of power systems, including internal combustion, fuel cell, and battery electric systems.


Developing, prototyping and evaluating algorithm concepts based on ML/AI and first principles modeling


Coordinating with stakeholders to align and support algorithms toward production implementation


Testing algorithms in HPC, Cloud and Edge IOT environments


Developing best practice for algorithm implementation and deployment

PhD in Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence or in mechanical, electrical or computer science with research focus in ML/AI.

Job Skill Requirements:


Programming experience in Python and Tensorflow, PyTorch and/or Jax and sufficient programming experience to adapt to different languages and environments


Preference for experience in physics informed machine learning, federated learning, generative AI, control theory and/or system identification


First principles based reduced order system modeling


Preference for experience with HPC, cloud, edge algorithm deployment, including containerization and IoT technologies
