Job Description
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced train conductor to lead our onboard support staff and make sure that all safety rules are followed. Your duties will include helping passengers board the train, answering their questions, and reporting any issues or emergencies. You should also be able to help passengers evacuate the train in case of an emergency.
To be a successful train conductor, you should be observant, alert, and good at solving problems. You should also be able to communicate well with both the train's crew and the passengers, and provide excellent customer service.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Separating or adding train cars as needed.
- Telling the train engineer when to start, stop, or slow down using a communication system or hand signals.
- Checking that all passengers have tickets and collecting payment from those who need to buy tickets.
- Coordinating daily tasks and training with other train workers and managers.
- Using a loudspeaker to inform passengers of any changes or delays.
- Keeping an eye on the train to maintain order and safety.
- Reporting any problems with the train's interior that could affect passengers' safety or comfort.
- Supervising the boarding and exiting of passengers.
- Helping passengers find the bathroom on the train.
Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a train conductor from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
- Previous experience working as a train conductor.
- Knowledge of railway procedures and safety rules.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Good hand-eye coordination and hearing.
