Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated school resource officer to ensure the safety of our students. This role involves creating safety plans, conducting safety drills, and responding to any conflicts or threats within the school. The school resource officer is a certified police officer and serves as the primary security resource for the school.
To excel in this role, you should have patience, a calm demeanor, and the ability to resolve conflicts. You should also be a positive role model for students.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Mediating conflicts and helping students resolve their differences peacefully
- Arresting or detaining students who break the law, such as bringing weapons or drugs to school
- Responding to school administrators' requests for assistance with student behavior
- Conducting searches of students' belongings if needed, with the safety of school staff in mind
- Patrolling the school grounds and monitoring security cameras
- Supervising special events and directing traffic if necessary
- Educating students on safety topics such as drug and alcohol abuse, bullying, and online safety
- Protecting the school and students from theft and property damage
- Assisting in medical emergencies
- Maintaining positive relationships with students to prevent delinquent behavior
- Collaborating with guidance counselors and support staff to assist students in need
Requirements and Qualifications
- Certification from a police academy, with additional training focused on working in a school setting
- Background in criminal justice is preferred
- First aid and CPR certification
- Passing a drug and criminal background check
- Patient and even-tempered personality
- Ability to communicate and connect with children and teenagers
