What does a Rehab Technician do?
A rehab technician is someone who helps physical therapists with their work. They gather information about patients, assist with physical therapy, and handle transportation for patients. These professionals can work at hospitals, rehab centers, and other medical facilities.
Job Description
We are seeking a friendly and capable rehab technician to support our physical therapist. Your responsibilities will include helping with patient intake, performing treatments under supervision, and keeping patient records up to date. You may also be responsible for maintaining a clean and organized facility and equipment.
To be successful as a rehab technician, you should have a good understanding of therapeutic techniques and preferably have experience in a similar role. A great rehab technician will be a team player and have strong interpersonal skills.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Gathering patients' personal information and updating their medical histories
- Assisting patients in getting to examination and treatment rooms
- Conducting initial assessments and basic diagnostic tests
- Performing treatments while being supervised by a licensed physical therapist, such as massage therapy and electric muscle stimulation
- Helping physical therapists with more complex treatments and assisting patients with physical activities
- Maintaining and updating patient records
- Managing patient mobility within the facility and arranging transportation for off-site appointments
- Sterilizing therapeutic equipment and keeping the facility clean and organized
- Safely disposing of hazardous waste and soiled materials
Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- CPR certification is preferred
- Previous experience in a similar role is a plus
- Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) software, such as Cliniko and Kareo
- Experience in gathering patient information and performing basic assessments
- Knowledge of physical therapy techniques, treatments, and equipment
- Ability to manage patient mobility and transportation needs
- Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment according to regulations
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, with a caring nature
- Physically fit to assist patients who are immobile, injured, or frail
