What does a Radiologic Technologist do?

Job Description
We are looking for an organized and detail-oriented radiologic technologist to operate imaging equipment for diagnostic purposes. This includes following doctors' instructions for which part of the body to scan, positioning patients and equipment, and answering any questions patients may have. The radiologic technologist will use imaging equipment to take pictures of tissues, bones, organs, and vessels. They may also assist in giving patients radiation therapy treatments or radiopharmaceuticals.
To be successful in this role, you should be caring and have good communication and people skills when working with patients. You should also have strong technical and analytical abilities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare examination rooms for patient appointments
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals to get clear images
- Position patients and equipment, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort
- Enter commands and data into the computer to document and specify scan settings
- Monitor patients during procedures, ensure their safety, and follow safety protocols to limit radiation exposure
- Produce diagnostic images, report important information to doctors, and update patient records
- Organize daily procedure schedules and handle emergencies
- Perform administrative tasks, such as answering questions, scheduling appointments, and giving pre-procedure advice
- Maintain and repair radiographic equipment
Requirements and Qualifications
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in radiology
- Valid license to practice radiography
- Excellent communication and people skills, including empathy and compassion
- Good math and technical abilities
- Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
- Ability to lift heavy objects without help
