Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Recruiting, supervising, and training correctional officers, maintenance staff, cooks, healthcare professionals, and counselors.
- Ensuring all staff know and follow the laws that govern prisoners and the rules of the prison.
- Monitoring staff and addressing any performance issues, and providing training when needed.
- Ensuring prison safety and security procedures are followed at all times to keep staff, inmates, and visitors safe.
- Investigating reports of misconduct and taking disciplinary action.
- Overseeing rehabilitation and re-entry programs and making recommendations for improvement.
- Conducting emergency drills and ensuring everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency.
- Making sure all necessary resources are available.
- Managing budgets and organizing fundraising programs.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in criminology, social work, or a related field.
- Several years of experience as a police officer, corrections officer, supervisor, or similar role.
- Relevant licenses or certifications may be required.
- A clean criminal record.
- Strong leadership, management, and business skills.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
