What does a Pipeline Inspector do?

A pipeline inspector, also known as a pipeline integrity engineer, is responsible for overseeing the construction of pipelines and ensuring their safety and functionality. They examine the infrastructure for any issues, such as damage, leaks, or corrosion, and provide recommendations for repairs or replacements.

Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented pipeline inspector to assess and examine pipeline infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting inspections, preparing technical reports, and providing solutions for any pipeline problems.

The ideal candidate for this position should have a mechanical mindset and strong attention to detail. They should also possess the ability to accurately diagnose pipeline issues and suggest cost-effective solutions.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviewing construction plans, schematics, and permits.
  • Ensuring pipeline construction meets technical and safety regulations.
  • Conducting visual inspections to identify faults, damage, corrosion, or leaks.
  • Utilizing various equipment, such as ultrasonic, X-ray, and magnetic flux systems, to assist in pipeline assessment.
  • Identifying and reporting the causes of pipeline issues.
  • Documenting assessments and generating incident reports for faulty or damaged pipelines.
  • Suggesting repair, maintenance, and mitigation solutions for compromised pipelines.
  • Planning and supervising pipeline repair and maintenance processes.
  • Ensuring all regulatory and permit documentation is correctly prepared and filed.
  • Staying up to date with the latest inspection software and tools.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, data analytics, or a related field.
  • Certification as a Pipeline Construction Inspector.
  • At least three years of experience as a pipeline inspector or in a similar role.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency in pipeline inspection software, such as ITpipes, PipeLogix, and GIS-based systems.
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA and PHSMA regulations.
  • Experience working with inspection equipment, such as pipeline inspection gauges, sonar, and magnetic flux systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work in varying weather conditions.
