What does a Orderly Attendant do?

An orderly attendant works at hospitals and care facilities to provide janitorial and patient care services. Their job is to assist patients with limited mobility and help with tasks like measuring blood pressure, eating, and personal hygiene. They also have the important responsibility of sterilizing equipment to keep patients safe.

Job Description

We are looking for a friendly and capable orderly attendant to help patients with mobility issues move around our facility. You will also assist with eating, drinking, and personal hygiene tasks. As an orderly attendant, you will also be responsible for taking blood pressure and changing bed linens.

To be successful in this role, you should have knowledge of proper techniques for assisting patients and experience with basic health measurements. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who can be trusted to care for our patients and who shows compassion in their work.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Helping patients get in and out of wheelchairs and moving them between locations.
  • Using special equipment to move patients who are very ill or have limited mobility.
  • Taking health measurements and lifting patients onto exam tables.
  • Assisting patients with eating, drinking, using the bathroom, and personal hygiene tasks.
  • Using special techniques to ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Demonstrating patience and empathy when caring for immobile or sick patients.
  • Transporting patients according to schedule and responding to urgent requests promptly.
  • Changing bed linens and cleaning and sterilizing equipment after use.
  • Reporting any equipment issues or malfunctions immediately.
  • Assisting with other tasks as needed.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as an orderly attendant or nursing assistant preferred.
  • CPR certification is a plus.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks during shifts.
  • Skilled in assisting patients while ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Familiarity with medical equipment used for patient care.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures for medical equipment.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
