What does a Nutrition Assistant do?

Job Description
We are looking for a dedicated nutrition assistant to support our nutritionist in providing healthy meals to our patients. This role involves gathering dietary information from patients, determining their nutritional needs, and monitoring them for any diet-related issues.
To be successful in this role, you should have experience in a similar position and be able to accurately obtain dietary information. A great nutrition assistant is proactive and helps our nutritionist improve our patients' well-being through nutrition support.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with dieticians to plan meals and menus for patients.
- Gather dietary information and assess patients' nutritional habits.
- Document any dietary restrictions or risk factors.
- Coordinate with healthcare professionals to ensure meal plans meet patients' needs.
- Monitor patients' caloric intake and activity levels.
- Take immediate action if a patient shows signs of malnutrition, allergies, or refusal to eat.
- Help distribute meals and ensure they are delivered on time and correctly.
- Maintain a clean and sterile environment for food preparation and distribution.
- Safely dispose of leftover food to prevent the spread of disease.
- Educate patients and their families on nutrition and healthy eating habits.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Associate's degree in nutrition, health, wellness, or a related field.
- ADA certification as a Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) is a plus.
- At least two years of experience in a similar role preferred.
- Extensive experience in obtaining dietary information and assessing nutritional needs.
- Knowledge of meal and menu planning.
- Experience in educating patients and their families on nutrition and dietary requirements.
- Strong ability to work with dieticians and intervene when necessary.
- Familiarity with meal provision standards and protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
