Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct research, tests, and experiments to determine engineering specifications and methods.
  • Design nuclear software, systems, instruments, equipment, and machinery.
  • Use simulations to ensure the safety and functionality of designs.
  • Develop nuclear hardware and software, such as reactor cores and cooling systems.
  • Create operational instructions and procedures for nuclear software, equipment, and machinery.
  • Oversee the construction, maintenance, and repairs of nuclear facilities and equipment.
  • Monitor nuclear facilities, machinery, and equipment for any issues.
  • Diagnose and address technical malfunctions or safety hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering.
  • Preferably, a master?s or Ph.D. in a related field.
  • Professional engineering (PE) license.
  • At least four years of experience as a nuclear engineer or similar role.
  • Experience with programming languages like Python, C++, and MATLAB is a plus.
  • Knowledge of simulation software such as RELAP5-3D and PyNE.
  • Strong understanding of nuclear physics, chemistry, and technology.
  • Familiarity with industry techniques and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of nuclear and radiation safety measures and regulations.
  • Excellent project management skills.
