What does a Mortician do?

Job Description
We are looking for an organized and compassionate mortician to help clients with funeral arrangements and provide embalming services. The mortician will offer support and guidance to clients and refer them to grief counselors. They will also assist with transporting the deceased to the funeral home and ensure they are prepared and cared for properly. Additionally, the mortician will help clients choose caskets, pallbearers, and religious leaders.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Meet with clients to discuss services and make funeral arrangements
- Provide pricing information and prepare contracts for clients
- Arrange for the transportation of the deceased to the funeral home
- Obtain necessary documents and permits for embalming and funerals
- Refer clients to reputable grief counselors
- Maintain cleanliness in the preparation room and with equipment
- Embalming, dressing, and making the deceased look presentable
- Coordinate flowers, religious leaders, and pallbearers for the funeral
- Conduct wake, graveside, funeral, and burial services
- Drive the hearse when needed
Requirements and Qualifications
- Associate's degree in mortuary science or embalming
- Valid state license as a funeral director and embalmer
- At least 2 years of experience as a mortician
- Valid driver's license
- Knowledge of various religions, cultures, and customs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational abilities
- Ability to remain focused for extended periods of time
- Physically strong and dexterous
