Job Description

We are seeking a skilled medical transcriptionist to transcribe voice recordings of medical consultations and procedures. Your responsibilities will include transcribing audio files, editing transcripts generated by speech recognition software, and formatting the reports. You may also be required to enter medical reports into electronic health record systems.

To be successful in this role, you should have extensive experience in medical transcription and a strong understanding of medical terminology. The ideal candidate will also have advanced proficiency in transcribing with specialized equipment and exceptional attention to detail.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Listen to recorded dictation from healthcare professionals.
  • Use specialized transcription equipment, such as headsets and foot pedals.
  • Edit and correct medical dictation generated by speech recognition software.
  • Convert transcribed information into report formats.
  • Ensure accurate and timely transcription to maintain patient care standards.
  • Write out the full versions of medical abbreviations and acronyms.
  • Identify and correct any inconsistencies or errors in the transcribed report.
  • Submit completed transcripts to healthcare professionals for approval.
  • Perform additional tasks, such as updating patient history and entering reports into electronic health record systems.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with legal requirements.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Completed post-secondary training in medical transcription.
  • Certification as a healthcare documentation specialist is a plus.
  • 2-3 years of experience as a medical transcriptionist or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in Electronic Health Record systems, such as AdvancedMD and Kareo Clinical EHR.
  • Ability to accurately transcribe at a minimum speed of 65 words per minute.
  • Experience with specialized transcription equipment and speech recognition software, such as WebChartMD and PhraseExpander.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical terminology and editing practices.
  • Strong attention to detail to maintain patient care standards.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with legal requirements.
  • Excellent written communication skills and knowledge of medical record formats.
