What does a Material Handler do?

A material handler is responsible for handling and managing hazardous or nonhazardous materials. They are also known as warehouse associates and are in charge of moving stock, documenting deliveries, and monitoring supplies. They do not require a formal education but need on-the-job training.

Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and professional material handler to join our warehouse team. If you are a hardworking individual who can complete tasks independently, we want to hear from you. In this role, you will be responsible for keeping track of warehouse inventory, documenting orders, and storing merchandise.

In addition to strong written and verbal communication skills, our ideal candidate must be physically fit. You should also have a good understanding of warehouse machinery and equipment, such as cranes, forklifts, and booms.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Loading and unloading inventory from loading docks, delivery trucks, storage areas, and production areas.
  • Checking incoming deliveries against company purchase orders.
  • Properly storing cargo using cargo boards and pallets in assigned locations.
  • Managing inventory by keeping track of and recording the location of items.
  • Recording daily movements of inventory using production sheets.
  • Operating various machinery, including booms, cameras, cranes, and forklifts, to handle materials and inventory.
  • Reading pick sheets to fulfill client orders and pulling the correct products.
  • Monitoring supply levels and making purchasing recommendations.
  • Contacting vendors for pick-ups or returns.
  • Following all safety and health regulations.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) forklift certification is a plus.
  • Good physical fitness, with the ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Availability to work overtime, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
