What does a Marine Engineer do?
A marine engineer is someone who designs, builds, maintains, and fixes different types of boats and other sea vessels. This can include cargo ships, cruise liners, and oil rigs. Job Description
We are looking for a precise marine engineer to oversee the development of multiple maritime projects. In this role, you will manage the research, design, and construction of boats, infrastructure, and equipment. You will also conduct tests to help with the maintenance and repairs of these sea vehicles.
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong ability to design and be physically fit. A great marine engineer should also have excellent project management skills and be able to supervise all aspects of maritime engineering.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Researching and testing to inform the design and construction of boats and equipment.
- Creating technical reports, such as research findings, system diagnostics, and design analysis documents.
- Presenting layout and engineering designs to clients and team members for feedback and analysis.
- Supervising the design process for structural, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Overseeing the construction of boats and equipment to ensure quality and safety.
- Performing quality control checks and tests on all systems and equipment, and making upgrades as needed.
- Enforcing safety precautions and managing project timelines.
- Training and supervising engineering teams, including designers, mechanics, and construction staff.
- Performing maintenance on boats and equipment.
- Investigating and diagnosing technical issues, and implementing effective repairs.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marine engineering or related field.
- Valid USCG engineer license.
- Professional engineer (PE) certification is preferred.
- At least four years of experience as a marine engineer or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in engineering design software, such as AutoCAD, Rhino 3D, and SOLIDWORKS.
- Familiarity with maritime software, such as HMI and PLC control systems.
- Knowledge of maritime HM&E systems and naval construction processes.
- Experience with a variety of engineering processes, including mechanical, electrical, and software.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in strenuous circumstances and harsh weather conditions.
